Globally Importing fresh flowers and fruit has enabled supermarkets to offer consumers a range of products regardless of the country’s local growing season. Importing fresh produce comes with a consequences to the environment. The long-distance transportation of fresh produce contributes to greenhouse gas emissions, impacting climate change.  Fresh produce has to be transported quickly using a “cold-chain” – a series of refrigerated facilities on farms, lorries, planes, and boats – which put the produce into a dormant state, so they stay fresh.  Vase life – the length of time flowers stay fresh.
